Mathew Russell is a Utah Native who grew up around artists. He likes to merge realism with abstraction to create the ultimate union of perception. While a camera will forever preserve a moment in time, a painting will express an individual’s perception of a moment in time. A painting can also express a concept that transcends the dimension of time, concepts that are in fact timeless. Mathew has been influenced by artists such as Da Vinci, Carravagio, Van Gogh, Picasso, Dali, H.R. Geiger and Alex Grey. In the future, Mathew wants to explore and portray the collective psyche of humanity to include concepts such as Jungian archetypes.
